Things From Gardens is looking for a part-time Studio Assistant to help out during a busy fall and holiday season.
Things From Gardens is a Vancouver-based floral design studio working across events, installations, creative productions and ongoing floral projects. Rather than operating as a traditional flower shop, the studio works project-to-project, with a lot happening behind the scenes to bring each one to life.
This is a small studio, so you’ll work directly with Aidan to help keep both the space and the projects happening within it running smoothly. The work is hands-on and varied, and no two weeks will look exactly the same. Note: This is an operations-focused support role, not a floral design position.
September–December
5–10 hours per week
Flexible schedule, ideally Thursdays + one other day
Hourly rate based on experience
THE ROLE
Tasks will change week to week depending on what we’re working on, but will include:
Studio
Cleaning and maintaining the studio, washing buckets, prepping vessels, processing materials, and keeping supplies organized.
Projects
Floral pickups and deliveries, sourcing materials, and helping with event and installation setup.
Admin
Research, sourcing, invoice follow-ups, and light project management.
Content
A bonus! If you have a good eye and experience taking photos and/or editing video, there are opportunities to help document and share studio life and projects.
YOU
You’re organized, reliable, resourceful, and happy to jump into the less glamorous jobs that keep a studio running. You aren’t afraid of a stinky vase or big pile of compost, like the idea of plugging in your headphones to spend 30 minutes washing buckets, and get excited about making sure everything is in it’s place and easy to find.
You have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
Floral experience is not required. Aesthetic will go a long way, but I’m more interested in finding someone with strong instincts, initiative, good vibes, and a willingness to learn.
THE GOOD STUFF
A flexible schedule; a creative working environment; hands-on experience across small business operations, design, events, and installations; opportunities to learn a breadth of new skills; leftover flowers when we have them; and room to take on more responsibility as the studio grows; working in our beautiful studio in Mount Pleasant.
There’s also the possibility of starting sooner or continuing beyond December if it’s a great fit.
